Doing it for the kids since 1950.

We are a unit within the El Kalah Shrine, Divan of Utah. We specialize in three areas: We serve as ambassadors to the public. Provide service wherever needed. And go out of our way to entertain and amuse along the way. It's what we do best. Wether it's entertaining the kids at the Intermountain Shriners Hospital for Children in Salt Lake City, or driving the FLYING CARPETS in one of our many holiday parades. Whatever, wherever, whenever, The Wreckers answer the call.
Since our creation on Spetember 6, 1950 we have been serving the people of the great state of Utah in many ways, and will contnue to do so for many years into the future. Service is our creed, and we live it to the letter each and every day. Please feel free to support us in our endeavours. Wether it's cheering us on in a parade, attending one of our many fundraising events, or visiting our online store. We appreciate everything our supporters and fans do to help our cause.
WRECKERS... MOUNT UP
President - Chris Coombs
Chris is a busy guy. Between the unit, chairing the Shrine Membership Comittee, assisting with his home Lodge, attending school, working, and raising a family... He doesn't sit still very long. He is the driving force in fundraising for the unit, and we are proud to have him as our President.
Vice President - Brian Crowder
Brian's childhood dream was to be a Shriner, and now he's living it. Brian is in charge of all things interweb, merchandising, promotions, organizing the troops, and many other duties. When he's not doing the President's dirty work, you can usually find him tuning karts, playing his guitar, or keeping a bar stool warm.
Doug Backes - Secretary
Doug is the man. Not only is he the Secretary of the Wreckers, he is also the Worshipful Master of Wasatch Lodge #1 F & AM of Utah. He's the one who keeps us all in line. When not cracking the whip, Doug spends lots of time in the desert blowing up stuff. He has his PHD and is an Engineer with ATK Systems.

COME ON OUT AND SHOW YOUR SUPPORT!
In 1950, Potentate Ray C. Wilson determined that a new unit
within the El Kalah Shrine needed to be established to
perform special duties for the Shrine. On September 6, 1950,
He formed the El Kalah Wreckers unit.
The first officer corps consisted of President William C. Ware,
Vice President Nick Carter, and Secretary/Treasurer M.E. Rhoades.
The original band of Wreckers were charged with originating,
building, and enacting the stunts for the initiation of new
Shrine Nobles in the Second Section of the Shrine Ceremonial.
Succeeding Potentates realized the value of these willing workers,
and proceeded to assign various tasks to the unit. Everything
from building circus platforms at the former Derks Field for the
annual Shrine Circus, orchestrating the annual "Hospital Day"
at the Intermountain Shrineers Hospital, and the Food Caravan
Drives for the hospital. If something needed to be done,
The Wreckers answered the call.
In 1976, the Temple was offered a 1939 open top Yellowstone bus.
The Wreckers were eager to support the Shrine, and purchased it.
restored it, and it is in use for Ceremonials and parades to
this day. At about the same time, the Unit formed the
mini bike club, which became so popular that it was spun off as
a seperate unit. The "Flying Carpets" were also added to the unit
and are entertaining the kids at parades all throughout Utah
to this day. Over the years they have become the central focus
of the Unit.
In 1979, The Western Shrine Convention was held in Salt Lake City,
The Wreckers were honored to have been selected to play an
intregal part. The ceremonial roping and leading of the
candidates through downtown in preparation of their ceremonial
initiation into the Shrine.
In this, our 60th anniversary year, we are proud to continue the
proud history of the Wreckers, and will strive to add to it's legacy.
